How do I test the speed of my ADSL connection?
If you think your connection speed is slower than usual or you feel you have a problem with it, it is advisable to test the speed over the Internet.
We recommend you try:
From here you can download a file (small, medium or large) and time the download, to see what throughput you get.
You can also try logging on with username: speedtest@speedtest_domain, then go to http://speedtester.bt.com/ and follow the on-screen instructions.
You will only be able to go to the above URL when logged on with the speedtest username. This tests the speed of the circuit without coming onto your ISP's Network, so we can narrow down where the problem lies. We would advise you to run a few tests with no-one using any bandwidth so we can get a more accurate picture of the problem and follow the on-screen instructions.
An alternative test that can be carried out can be found at www.adslguide.org. From the home page, click on "speed test". This test also gives you a graphical representation of your ADSL speed.
