What is a splitter/micro-filter?

Sometimes referred to as a 'microfilter', this small device essentially allows you to do what previously required a BT engineer. The splitter plugs into your existing telephone socket. You then plug your existing telephone cable into the designated socket, and the connection to your USB ADSL modem or Ethernet router into the socket that remains free. The purpose of the micro-filter is to split the telephony service from the ADSL service.

How many splitters/micro-filters do I need?

One micro-filter is required on every telephone socket that supports an appliance e.g. if you have two telephones in your house (connected to telephone sockets) a splitter is required for both sockets.

What if I don't use micro-filters on every telephone socket supporting an appliance?

You will hear interference on your telephone line when the ADSL service is in use.
